Winda the Owl LES 0004

Click on image for full view of scarf. This artwork depicts a dreaming story from the Narrunga people in the region I was born. Winda lived in a cave near the beach at Ardrossan with his two gudly (dogs). At the beach lived the Tookaja family (curlew Birds), one day the mother and father left the children to search for food. While they were away Winda ordered his gudly to kill the Tookaja children so he may eat them. When the parents returned home and found the children missing they went looking for Winda. On the way they met Nuntha (kangaroo) he felt sorry for them and decided to help. He lured the two gudly out of the cave and killed them. Winda would not come out so Nuntha cursed him to stay in the cave. That is why owls live in dark caves and only come out at night and you can still hear the curlew mourn for young to thids day.
