Tjuringas is an Arrente term used for incised and or painted stones or boards.These can vary greatly in size,shape and design and each item is unique.Some Tjuringas are quite sacred and used in rituals, some may protect the carrier from harm while others are deeply personal, symbolising the essence of the owners individual spirit and on the owners death are passed on to their descendants for safe keeping.
